Blockworks reported that Algorand has become the first layer-1 blockchain to adopt Python as its primary development language, aiming to tap into the pool of over 10 million Python developers worldwide. This strategic move, described as a "seismic change" by Algorand Foundation CTO John Woods, aims to lower barriers for developers to create blockchain applications. Unlike previous implementations like PyTEAL, AlgoKit 2.0 compiles native Python to Algorand Virtual Machine bytecode, making it compatible with Python-native tooling. This update is expected to drastically reduce the learning curve for developers and accelerate the development of decentralized applications on Algorand.
