Marja-Leena Aaltonen
Legal Counsel
Before joining Algorand Foundation as Legal Counsel, Marja-Leena started her career near Chicago with a degree in Agriculture Communications and a fast hand at old-school desktop publishing. Moving to California to work in online ad operations was followed by a range of studies including Architectural Drafting, Construction Project Management and a certificate in Nanotechnology and Clean-tech in between setting up ad revenue operations for several niche websites eventually acquired by the big dot-com publishers, managing Lake Tahoe and Vegas hospitality building projects, training teams in web2 ad-tech data retargeting, and serving on Finnish cultural nonprofit boards. Then M-L evolved her online advertising operations and business experience to address her need to do something for good in the world by applying to law school. Four years and a baby later she had a fresh law degree and California Bar license. While mostly focused on human rights and social justice law work during her studies, a game-changing Blockchain and the Law course landed her back in an exciting intersection of technology and creating good in people’s lives, but now with the legal twist. Relocating her family from California to Finland was another new challenge and they are happily exploring their new Finnish life while still pursuing favorite hobbies like cooking, playing music, and traveling.

@CaroalgorocksJoseph Cecala
Product Marketing Manager - Pera
Joseph joined Algorand Foundation in June 2024 after spending 12 years working as an Engineer and Project Manager for large scale construction projects. As a Project Manager, he wore many hard hats. He managed large budgets, planned logistics, directed large crews, and ensured the quality of build for the project at hand. With the boom of blockchain technology in 2021, he came in dubiously. "Why are these monkey pictures selling for so much?" he asked himself. Trying his hand in Algorand NFTs, he immediately fell in love with this groundbreaking technology. While the technology was groundbreaking, it was not easy to use. Joseph once again put on his hardhat and helped develop open source, no code tools to help promote adoption. Joseph believes that blockchain technology can help empower anyone by allowing them to own their work and not be at the mercy of a centralized platform. He is a firm believer that blockchain adoption is not a matter of if, but wen.

Later, Ram navigated through roles at other VC firms, eventually landing at a Web3 fund, Blockwall Capital, and an accelerator, X Ventures. During this time, he evaluated thousands of projects and conducted due diligence on selected ones. To immerse himself further in the Web3 space, Ram helped establish CityDAO's grants division and collaborated on developing automation tooling for various DAOs. When he found the opportunity to intern at Algorand Foundation, where his experience aligned perfectly with the role's responsibilities, he took the leap, and it has been one of my best decisions so far. Outside of work, I enjoy crossfit, skateboarding, and collecting vinyl records.
