Hackathon

Written by: Algorand Foundation

After four exciting weeks of building, it’s finally time to announce the winners of the Algorand Build-A-Bull hackathon! Over this period, hundreds of innovators from around the world came together online to collaborate, code, and develop world-changing ideas into working prototypes and proofs of concept.

Now, after many long nights of coding and iterative development, five outstanding projects rose to the top as finalists. This blog provides details of the winning projects that go through to the grand final and the runners up. The winners of each track will receive $25K USDCa, and the runners up will receive $10K USDCa and $5K USDCa, respectively.

Johanna Moran, Head of Developer Outreach & Programs in Ecosystem Funding at Algorand Foundation, said: “The goal of the hackathon was to empower developers and entrepreneurs to use blockchain technology, specifically the Algorand protocol. We were looking for the strongest teams building the best products that supported the growth of the Algorand ecosystem and could demonstrate product market fit.”

Grand Prize Demo Day

The Grand Prize Demo Day, where the track winners will present their projects to the Algorand community, will be livestreamed on YouTube on December 13. The Build-A-Bull Champion will win $10,000 USDCa, $25,000 in AWS credits, and three tickets to Decipher 2024.

Thank you to the Build-A-Bull judges and partners

We would like to say a big thanks to our hackathon judges and partners—Circle, Wormhole, AWS, Unity, and Folks Finance—for their support and financial backing that was instrumental in making the Build-A-Bull hackathon a resounding success. Through these partnerships, we continue to empower visionary creators and fuel groundbreaking projects that push the boundaries of blockchain and digital assets.

3rd: BlockStalker - Makes interacting with the Algorand network as simple as receiving and reacting to a push notification.

Interoperability

1st: Janus - A cross-chain account abstraction system that aims to onboard users from other chains seamlessly, allowing them to operate on Algorand without leaving their favorite wallet.

2nd: Wormhole Connect + Algorand - A source development kit (SDK) that enables Algorand developers to easily drop Wormhole bridging capability into their apps to allow for seamless multi-chain experiences and expansive possibilities for users.

3rd: ReceiveMe - Streamlines the process of accepting payments, both physically and digitally, across different cryptocurrency networks.

Additional Wormhole prize: Algorand on Wormhole's connect-sdk - contributes to Wormhole's connect-sdk by implementing the Algorand TokenBridge for seamless integration with the Algorand blockchain.

Robinson Burkey, CCO of the Wormhole Foundation, said:  “As a judge on the Interoperability track, I was genuinely impressed by the quality of builders. The use of the SDK to integrate Wormhole bridging into Algorand apps was a highlight, showcasing the power of straightforward, effective solutions. The potential for growth and innovation here is immense.”
