What happened in July: Growth, shift, and signals for Algorand
Building on June, July 2025 saw major developments on the technical and financial fronts in the Algorand ecosystem. Total Value Locked (TVL) in USD increased 33%, climbing from $141.6 million to $188.4 million, driven in part by market price action and expanding DeFi activity.
The number of smart contracts deployed surged by 117.81%, jumping from 324,537 in June to 706,862 in July, a strong indicator of accelerating DeFi adoption, increased developer engagement and active on-chain experimentation.
Stablecoin market cap also grew 20%, up from $65 million to $78.2 million, reflecting deeper liquidity and confidence in Algorand-based assets. July also set a new all-time high for stablecoin transfer volume in 2025, surging by 114.8% from $555 million in June to a record $1.36 billion.
Assessing Algorand’s decentralization and security progress over the first half of 2025, roughly five months since the launch of staking rewards, the trends are clearly positive. The total amount of ALGO staked increased by 54% between January and June.
Community participation surged, with the community’s share of stake rising from 36% to 79%, while the Algorand Foundation’s share declined from 63% to just 21%. At the same time, the number of validators (online accounts) more than doubled, growing from 897 in January to 1,985 by June, a 121% increase.
Algorand’s globally distributed nodes, spanning over 80 countries, enhance the network’s decentralization, security and resilience. This wide geographical spread reduces risks from localized outages or regulatory actions, strengthens censorship resistance and promotes global community inclusion.
Algorand Tokenomics
By the end of July, the circulating supply of ALGO had reached 8.69 billion, accounting for 86.9% of its total maximum supply.
