Welcome to the first insights report of 2025, recapping the month of December. The Algo Insights Report is your monthly update for news and insights from the Algorand Foundation, ecosystem, and more.

December was the final chapter of a transformative year for Algorand. It was a month of sustained growth and notable achievements in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization.

In this issue of the report, we will focus on RWA TVL growth, node growth, and social media momentum.

The real-world asset sector on Algorand has shown consistency, with steady month-over-month growth since June 2024. RWA TVL increased by 34.6% from $57 million to $77 million in the second half of last year, driven primarily by expanding asset tokenization on Lofty. From November to December, there was a 7.5% increase in RWA TVL alone, again highlighting a strong finish to the year in this sector.

The Algorand Mainnet also experienced a 31% increase in the number of nodes, indicating significant growth in decentralization. Staking Rewards’ impending launch in January has been driving incentivization to run a node and help secure the Algorand network.

Algorand's social media presence ended 2024 on a particularly strong note. Engagement rates jumped to 7.2% in Q4, significantly outperforming the 4.3% rate seen in Q1-Q3. Perhaps most notably, 64.5% of the year's total follower growth for X occurred in Q4, with 13,196 new followers joining the community compared to 7,251 in the first three quarters combined.

Monthly Real-World Asset Total Value Locked

RWATVL_Dec

What happened in December: Algorand's real-world asset sector produced its seventh consecutive month of sustained growth. The total RWA TVL reached $76.77 million by year's end, representing a 34.6% increase from June's figure of $57.03 million.

What is causing this: Key to the RWA TVL expansion is Lofty, which showed month-over-month gains, steadily climbing from $31.24 million RWA TVL in June to $50.64 million by December. This consistent upward trend saw Lofty adding approximately $3-5 million in tokenized real estate value each month. This growth was a key driver in pushing Algorand's total RWA TVL to $76.77 million.

The bigger picture: Algorand's consistent growth in RWA TVL reflects its strength as a purpose-built platform for real-world asset tokenization. The blockchain's architecture addresses key requirements for institutional-grade RWA solutions, such as transaction finality and low fees. This combination of technical capabilities, coupled with the steady growth in RWA TVL throughout 2024, proves Algorand's strategic positioning as a leading blockchain for real-world asset tokenization.
