Sweden's central bank, the Riksbank, has tested the Algorand blockchain platform for potential retail CBDC solutions for the e-Krona. The report "Potential Climate Impact of Retail CBDC Models" evaluated three designs: highly centralized, semi-centralized, and decentralized. Hedera was tested for the semi-centralized design, offering high throughput and low electricity consumption. Algorand was tested for the decentralized design, providing resilience through its distributed network. Currently, 130 countries are exploring CBDCs, with 64 in advanced phases and 11 having launched.
