On December 3, 2025, Bullfrog Power announced a tokenized environmental pilot program for Bullfrog Environmental Tokens, issued on the Algorand blockchain.
Staples Canada, a Bullfrog Power customer for over a decade, is participating in the pilot as the first company to adopt Bullfrog Environmental Tokens.
Improving transparency in sustainability reporting

Bullfrog Environmental Tokens build on Bullfrog Power's existing chain of custody tools, such as Emissions Reduction Reports and Annual Green Energy Audits, by introducing a secure, permanent, and publicly accessible digital certificate.
The Bullfrog token
The core of this partnership is the Bullfrog Environmental Token, which digitally represents Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs) and offers a traceable record to report clean energy purchases.
Each Bullfrog Environmental Token is uniquely linked to a verified set of environmental attributes, which is embedded in the token and remains accessible in perpetuity, ensuring full traceability and auditability. The tokens are issued on the energy-efficient Algorand blockchain, bringing unprecedented transparency and traceability to corporate sustainability claims.
Core Meta Data
Each token contains publicly verifiable environmental attributes and rich metadata, known as Core Meta Data. It includes essential compliance information for sustainability reporting, such as:
- Customer name (e.g., Staples Canada)
- Certification body (e.g., ECOLOGO)
- Energy attribute type (e.g., Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) or Carbon Credit (CC))
- Energy attribute quantity (e.g., 400 MWh)
- Generator project and technology (e.g., wind/solar)
- Generation and application periods
Tokenization can increase savings by reducing overhead and streamlining environmental inquiries from customers and suppliers through intelligent automation.
The Algorand Blockchain Explorer
Users can browse and search data on the Algorand blockchain using a version of the Algorand Blockchain Explorer customized for the Bullfrog Power pilot.
The interface organization features intuitive tabs for accessing data:
- Asset tab: Displays essential details about the energy attribute itself, such as the amount of energy (e.g., MWh), the generation project's name, generation date, and technology (e.g., wind, solar).
- Customer tab: Shows information about the energy attribute owner/buyer, including their name, certifying body, scope, and the specific retirement period covered by the attribute.
- Reference tab: Provides direct links to the public Algorand blockchain explorer for full on-chain disclosures, along with links for off-chain hybrid and post-quantum signatures, ensuring complete data traceability.
- Support tab: Offers comprehensive support resources.
Ultimately, the Algorand Blockchain Explorer interface provides customers and auditors alike with accessible, trustworthy proof of sustainability efforts.
Why Algorand
